R*n 292 - Well Well Well

13th September 2026
Today our hares Beano and Dancing Delight took us to Styal, and laid on a beautiful trail taking in Quarry Bank Mill, Lindow Common, Carrs Park and back again to the Ship where Cwoardelia tried to poison everyone.

The day started and ended with beautiful weather - 2026 has really been exceptional, and hashing in the sunshine is most definitely the way to go. Today was just perfect - not to hot, not too cool, no precipitation, and a good sized pack too.

We left from the ship promptly - as for once we didn't have to wait for Beano to show up as he was haring and so already there, and proceeded down the road to Quarry Bank Mill which was deftly skirted around before we went on and off piste on a route that dropped us off at Hickory's Smokehouse. The smells coming from inside were wonderful - but sadly we didn't stay quite long enough for any grub.

Once off again, we travelled towards and then through The Carrs where our intrepid first time hasher Solana followed the trail impeccably by wading through the river, whilst the older and (soon to be chastised) pack members wimped out and used the bridge.

Beano and DD had most generously arranged a picnic stop replete with alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, crisps, nuts, fruit and other delicacies. Once off again we made our way back to the Ship for post hash down-downs. Solana rightly called out everyone else for being short cutting b**tards and not following the route through the river, and many other dubious and earned down-down's were administered.

In a tradition spanning the last three years, Cwoardelia then brought out a bag of chillies and told the assembled throng that "They're not very hot, they are only Jalapenos". Each member of the pack picked a chilli and then proceeded to eat them - and what happened next will live on in hash folklore for years to come. Cwoardelia's chillies were indeed not hot - they were incendiary! Most of the pack could be seen reeling from the overwhelming heat of the chillies, the only one who asked for more was our intrepid Solana, who clearly showed what a great hasher she was! Eyes were watering, mouths dribbling, and several hashers had to get more drinks to try to repair the mess in their mouths.
Lastly a mention must be made for the beautiful tribute that we all passed and took photos of during the hash. This tribute was to a chap called Christopher Hall who was walking his dog in The Carrs in August 2020 when he was sadly killed by a falling limb from the tree that now bears the tribute. A link to the details is here.
